No, it’s not a miracle cream—in fact, it won’t cost you a thing
Sleeping Beauty was definitely onto something: Skimping on sleep can wreak major havoc on your skin, according to a new study commissioned by Estée Lauder.
The research, conducted by the University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, looked at the skin of 60 people who recorded their sleeping habits for three days. During the experiment, researchers tested their skin for various signs of aging and found that people who spent more time tossing and turning at night were more likely to have wrinkles, an uneven skin tone, and reduced elasticity. But that’s not all—skin redness also disappeared 30 percent faster when people logged enough Zzzs.
Why? Without sleep, your skin cells can’t function as efficiently, which makes it harder for your body to repair damaged skin, says study author Elma Baron, MD, assistant professor of dermatology at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
